The Karematsuzawa Zuido tunnel (in Kamaishi City, Iwate Prefecture), owned by our company, is located 320 meters above sea level and extends in a north-south direction. Part of a larger-scale tunnel system, this straight section is more than 5 kilometers in length. Since it is fully underground, the average temperature in the tunnel is a constant 12⇔ to 13⇔ throughout the year and humidity is stable. Because such environments are rare in Japan, particularly in the form of valuable underground spaces, we are inviting ideas for its use from the general public in the hope that it will provide businesses, research institutions and others with venues for experimental and other activities.
