Unique Barrel-Type Electrolyzer for Spent Etchant from Copper Surface Chemical Roughening.


This system enables the processing of the spent roughening etchant, containing copper sulfate and hydrogen peroxide, and the recovery of highly pure metal copper pellets by electrolytic method.

Spent Roughening Etchant Processing System

Barrel electrolyzer, which is the main part of this processing system is unique equipment adapting the principle of barrel plating. Copper ion in the spent etchant was recovered as metal copper on the cathode pellets in the rotating barrel.

Photo:Copper pellets.The only manual work that must be performed is to unload the recovered copper pellets while operating the system. Barrel electrolyzer can prevention of bad smell and keep clean of work environment because it has the structure, which can be exhausted completely gas and mist.

The main processes are hydrogen peroxide removal process and electrolytic process. First, hydrogen peroxide is removed from the spent etchant by heating.Some COD constituents in the spent etchant are also decomposed at this time. Next, copper ions in the spent etchant are deposited as copper metal. At the same time, COD constituents are decomposed. Copper concentration, which remains in the solution after electrolysis process can be decreased to hundreds of ppm order.
