Project Name: CHOUSI
4 Exploration concessions: 24km2, 100% share
Target minerals: Cu, Au
Geology and Ore Deposit: The concessions are located about 10 km east of the Relincho mine. The
eastern part of this concession is dominated by weakly to moderately propylitized
andesitic lavas and white quartz porphyry. The andesitic lavas are composed
mainly of quartz > chlorite and subsequently of epidote } magnetite
} sericite (} potassium feldspar). The quartz porphyry are composed mainly
of quartz >> plagioclase } biotite } magnetite, and sericitizations
are partially recognized in the groundmass.
The western part of this concession is dominated by light gray diorite`quartz diorite, strongly silicified andesitic rocks (or hydrothermal breccias) and silicified - white argillized rocks (andesite to diorite). The silicified - white argillized rocks (andesite to diorite) are composed of quartz > sericite > hematite/limonite, and accompanied locally with potassium feldspar kaolinite and jarosite derived from weathering are observed on the rock surfaces. The strongly silicified andesitic rocks seem to be andesitic lavas and andesitic tuff to tuff breccias, but there is another possibility that they be hydrothermal breccias because the matrix is filled with black iron-silicate minerals.
Neutral alteration zones such as silicification and white argillization (sericite) are extensively recognized in this concession. Strong silicified rocks inferred to be hydrothermal breccias, altered quartz porphyry and diorite to quartz diorite are observed. Diorite seems to be the youngest igneous rocks and to be middle to late Cretaceous age because a part of quartz porphyry have been altered.
The preliminary survey by Nittetsu Mining detected iron mineral occurrences resulting from hydrothermal alteration. The geochemical survey detected weak anomalies of Cu, Au and Mo etc.
Exploration activities:
[2000-2001] Satellite image analysis using JERS-1 and ASTER data.
[2002] Preliminary geological and geochemical surveys (24 km2).
[2004- ] JV exploration is in progress (detailed geological and geochemical surveys).
Future plan(2005- ): JV exploration will be conducted (geophysical exploration and drillings).
